I treat my clients how I expect to be treated if I was a client obtaining therapy. I consider myself a fair and objective person who listens without judgment. I am open-mind and kind, and it is important for clients to feel my genuineness and empathy throughout the therapeutic relationship.
Therapy goals start with establishing a strong rapport and therapeutic relationship with the client. We begin by identifying recurring and underlying concerns, in addition to goals, intentions and aspirations of the client. Next, we narrow down the concerns to find 1-2 concerns that we can create clear, measurable and attainable goals. Once the goals are established, we can start a action plan to track and achieve those goals.
As human beings, our experiences with other human beings is how we learn and grow ourselves. Thus, I have had experiences in life were I have felt depressed, anxiety stress, etc., and I have had to seek help from a counselor to help get through the rough patches. Thus, I know how it feels to feel stuck and needing help to get unstuck. My experiences have made me a very sympathetic and empathetic counselor.
“Be the change you want to see in the world,” a quote that I incorporate in my everyday life. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for 7 years, and I have worked as a Military Family and Life Counselor (MFLC) for the past 4.5 years in which I provide non-medical, solution focused and walk around counseling directly to service members and family members. Being a special education teacher was the driving force which led me to dive in counseling. I realized that therapeutically helping students and families with their mental health is what was needed to empower individuals to be successful, thus I became a LPC. In addition to having experience working with military families and culture, I hold experience in counseling various populations with concerns associated with child/adolescent emotional and behavioral concerns, addiction/substance abuse, stress management and family and marital problems. I like to take an integrative approach to therapy, however I enjoy utilizing solution-focused therapy. It is necessary at times to explore past experiences and the origin of problems, however, with the current situation and times in which we live, I find it helpful for individuals to focus on present and future goals with goal oriented problem solving. I would love to work with you on any concerns and needs you may have.
